Industry: Steel Industry

Pittini Group: Over 600 kW of Cooling-as-a-Service

600 kW Daikin Chiller Operating Lease for Pittini Group

Cooling Capacity: 621 kW

Location: Osoppo (UD) – Italy

Technology: Air-cooled chiller with inverter single-screw compressors

Contract Model: Cooling-as-a-Service

The Requirement: SIAT S.p.A. (Società Italiana Acciai Trafilati), a Pittini Group company specializing in the production of cold-drawn wire and cold-rolled flat wire in low- and medium-carbon steel, required over 600 kW of cooling capacity at its Osoppo plant to cool industrial water supporting a core manufacturing process.

The Solution: The project involved replacing an obsolete multi-chiller installation with a new air-cooled Daikin unit powered by inverter-driven single-screw compressors. This technology delivers significantly superior energy efficiency and enables precise capacity modulation based on actual load demand, minimizing power consumption during part-load operation.  Furthermore, dual independent refrigerant circuits enhance operational continuity: an issue isolated to a single circuit does not result in a total system shutdown. Compared to single-circuit configurations, this design substantially reduces total downtime risk without requiring full redundancy.  The unit features a shell-and-tube evaporator and microchannel condenser coils—a configuration engineered to integrate efficiency, precise control, and operational reliability for demanding industrial applications.

Services Provided by EUCOS: EUCOS provided the chiller under a long-term operating lease within the Cooling-as-a-Service framework.  The contract defines the Operating Envelope and ensures 24/7 unit availability, backed by stringent Service Level Agreements (SLAs) governing service continuity, technical support, and response times.  The service package encompasses routine and corrective maintenance, technical support, full insurance coverage, remote monitoring, complete component warranty coverage, and emergency response services.

Results Achieved: Replacing the legacy multi-chiller installation with a new high-efficiency inverter unit provided Pittini Group with over 600 kW of cooling capacity, featuring dynamic modulation matched to actual load demand. The dual independent refrigerant circuits further enhance operational continuity, significantly mitigating the risk of a complete system shutdown.  Through the Cooling-as-a-Service model, the client gained immediate access to the equipment and a complete, managed service package—including routine and corrective maintenance, technical support, remote monitoring, comprehensive insurance, and rapid emergency response—all operating within a contractually defined Operating Envelope and strict SLAs, with zero capital expenditure required for asset purchase.  Furthermore, the substantial energy efficiency gains enabled the project to qualify for White Certificates (Energy Efficiency Certificates / TEE), thereby monetising the energy savings achieved.
